What drew you to be a HALTER Jockey?

From the moment I stepped into HALTER's arena, I knew it was a special place.  I was really excited about volunteering there because I love working with animals & working outside.  As soon as I began talking to the other volunteers and observed the relationships that were forming between both the horses and students, I immediately became attached to the organization.  HALTER taught me that it doesn't matter where you come from or what abilities you have or don't have- it's the heart behind it all.  So when I heard about the need for a HALTER jockey, I jumped at the opportunity.  I not only want to raise money for such a wonderful non-profit, but I wanted to spread awareness and teach others about the wonderful connections HALTER provides.  You don't realize how much HALTER changes your perspective on life until you experience it for yourself.  

Tell us a little bit about yourself...

I live on the outskirts of Woodruff, SC.  My family owns a 100-acre farm where we work cattle, goats, chickens, and miniature donkeys.  I have always loved taking care of animals and I also love working in the garden during the summer. (the dirt doesn't bother me a bit!)  I am a junior in HS and attend the University of South Carolina Upstate for their Scholars Academy program.  My goal is to hopefully become a Veterinarian.  I participate in varsity tennis and soccer at my hometown school, Woodruff High.  When I'm not busy with school work or soccer & tennis, you can find me fishing, crafting, or working out.   I'm all about doing stuff that makes me smile and laugh, because it's like free therapy!  :)

What the 2022 HALTER Derby is about...

EVERY child who participates at HALTER depends on the generosity of our donors, because the fees that are charged to individuals only cover 11% of the expenses.
