Why did you want to become a jockey?*
I wanted to become a jockey because I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this type of work can be. My daughter, Amberlyn, who has special needs, had the opportunity to be around horses during her time at the School for the Deaf and Blind, and it brought her so much joy and confidence. Watching her connect in that space made a lasting impression on me. Being part of HALTER felt like a meaningful way to support a program that creates those same opportunities for others.
Tell us about yourself (ie what do you do, how did you find out about HALTER)*
I’m a wife, a mom, and the co-owner and COO of Carolina Family Services, a local nonprofit supporting children and families navigating mental health, developmental, and special needs challenges. I also own Spartanburg Charcuterie Company, where I create elevated food experiences and bring people together through shared moments. I was introduced to HALTER through my daughter while she was attending the School for the Deaf and Blind, and that connection has stayed with me ever since.
Is there a fun fact you would like to share?*
Fun fact: I’ve been called the “snack queen” thanks to my charcuterie business, where I create edible art and bring people together through food—so when I heard that Onyx loves snacks too, I knew we’d be a perfect match.
Who is your horse, and why did you choose him?*
My horse is Onyx, and honestly, I picked him because he’s just an instant beauty—you can’t miss him. He’s strong and clearly knows how to work, but he also loves to stop for a snack, so I felt like we understood each other right away. That balance just felt like the perfect match for me.
