Why did you want to become a jockey?*

I wanted to become a jockey in an attempt to give back to a community that has given so much to me! HALTER is a place where anyone and everyone can feel welcome, and the positive energy that swarms the facility. I also chose to be a jockey in honor of my grandfather, who passed away last year, and the memories he created with my mom when she was a young girl. He loved horses immensely, and I am fortunate enough to feel the same deep connection with these special animals that has only grown during my time at HALTER!!

Tell us about yourself (ie what do you do, how did you find out about HALTER)*

I am a Master's student at Converse University, working towards licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy! I found out about HALTER through one of my cohort members, and a volunteer at HALTER, Elizabeth B. She worked side by side with HALTER and the administrative team at Converse to secure HALTER's approval as an externship site. Because of this collaboration between sites, I have been able to volunteer at HALTER as a side-walker, horse leader, and gain additional hands-on learning experiences from Katy.
